Cirriculum/Library Wiring Closets
There are to be two Intermediate wiring closets implemented in the LAN design. One will be located in the West Wing near the Library to provide network access for classroom and library users. The second IDF will be placed in the East Wing, primarily for curriculum network support. The second IDF will also provide connectivity for the rooms external to the building.

IDF Topology
Each IDF will contain two Cisco 3500 Series Switches initially, which will connect to a Cisco Slimline 96 port Patch Panel for dedicated line usage. From the IDF, four lines of Gigabit Ethernet cable will be used for Horizontal cabling to run to each individual classroom. Cisco 1548 Microswitches were used as an alternative to Hubs in attempt to allow the LAN to have as many collision domains as possible. Although collisions are a factor in every network, this LAN design will at least provide as many dedicated lines as needed for optimal bandwidth and security.
