MDF/POP
Initially, Acacia's LAN was designed to have an MDF/POP location and three additional IDF rooms. One IDF for Administration, one for curriculum support and a final room for Library network connection. However, given the size of the school, four wiring closets would have been excessive and costly. Therefore, the "Administrative IDF", or the wiring closet that would support all of the administrations dedicated lines and network support was combined with the MDF.

MDF Topology
The MDF/Administrative Wiring Closet contains a Cisco 3660 Series Router as the border router for the Intranet design. A Cisco 5500 Catalyst Switch is used to provide connection for the Enterprise Servers and redundant vertical cabling to the IDF rooms. The Cisco 3500 Series Switch is connected to the main switch and will provide VLAN connections for the Administration only. These switches require a higher measure of security because of their roles in the design, therefore the router will include Access Control Lists to prevent access to data on any subnet connected to either switch in the MDF.
